Custom Web Site Template Construction

W3 Teck can provide custom built web site templates that meet W3C standards and are ready for content population and scripting. What the template provides is the overall look and feel to for a web site. All that is left to add are links to the pages of your site and to fill in the content. A single HTML template file and associated CSS files are delivered for each design. In the case where a site uses more than one design multiple files are delivered.

W3 Teck builds web site templates in Dreamweaver, but if you are not using this application then a standard HTML, PHP, ASP, CFM or SHTML file will be generated.

If your site will use a server technology such as PHP, ASP, Cold Fusion or even SHTML, W3 Teck will build your custom web site template with included files that remove most of the common elements from the template itself. Common areas that are placed into included files might be such things as the page header, navigational areas, footers, and so forth. This allows for easy editing and site maintenance. This also allows these areas to include scripting that does not become part of the template itself. If you would like us to use includes in a template we simply need to know what server technologies your server will support and which you plan to use for the scripting of your site. If W3 Teck will be contracted to do the scripting as well then the server technology we use is PHP.

W3 Teck can also add drop-down or fly-out menus to templates. These menus can be built either using pure CSS or built using JavaScript. W3 Teck recommends the use of CSS for these types of menus.

What we need and expect to receive to create a custom web site template for your project:

  • The Original, Competed Design(s) in Layered PhotoShop Files (PSD's)
    • W3 Teck will not begin construction of a custom web site template until we have all the completed designs that will be used for the site in the appropriate format.
    • For SEO purposes, W3 Teck requires the use of browser safe fonts in designs. W3 Teck will not accept a project where Web site elements that should be text must be converted to images to preserve the appearance of text. For more information please read our thoughts on Image Use.
  • Information not included in the Design such as:
    • Mouse Over Effects (if none are specified then W3 Teck will use what we feel is appropriate and our best judgement.)
    • The server technology to be used (for scripting)
    • If includes should be used
    • If a CMS will be used on the site, the name of that CMS
      • Use of a CMS may alter the needs of the template
      • Areas of the Template that will need to be editable in the CMS
      • You may also need to provide any specifics on the special requirements or your CMS

Standards compliant custom web site template construction is an area where W3 Teck excels. We believe that you will not find another company that can build site templates as efficiently, quickly or economically. W3 Teck also keeps its eye on future needs and understands dynamic design so that we can provide a template that will easily allow the incorporation of dynamic scripting futore changes.

Custom Web site template construction is billed at the Static Development Rate. This is true even if includes are used as long as the only scripting involved is the addition of the include statements and does not include any dynamic generation in these included files.
